Trekking in India

Trekking in IndiaIndia offers a variety of adventure sports including trekking in almost every part. The high mountain ranges especially in the high altitude regions of Himalayas provide some breathtaking and enthralling trekking routes. Trekking in India gives you an unforgettable experience by taking you to some unexplored trails of mountain environment. Trekking offer an exciting option to explore some beautiful places with spectacular views of the beauty of mountains, waterfalls and countryside area. April to November is known as the best trekking season in India, though some parts are open only for one or two months. Trekking will also let you know about the local tradition, customs, values and local culture.


Instructions
Before going for trekking, it is necessary to have all the geographical and historical information about the place, and the equipments needed. Medicinal check-up, prior to start trekking is essential. Comfortable walking shoes, first aid kit, UV proof glasses, food stuff, drinking water are some of the necessary things to carry for any traveller.
Trekking Treks
India offers a variety of trekking places in almost every part. The Garhwal and Kumaon regions of Uttaranchal, Chamba and Manali in Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Zanskar in Jammu and Kashmir, Darjeeling in West Bengal, Yuksam in Sikkim etc are some of the best trekking tour destinations.

» Himalayan Trekking - This is one of the most spectacular mountain range in the world and has several challenging trekking paths. The major trekking routes in Himalayan region include the Kashmir Valley, Kishtwar, Ladakh, Lahul & Spiti, Zanskar, Chamba and Manali. June to October is the general trekking season in the Himalayas. Darjeling and Sikkim are the other two trekking destinations of Himalayas, where one can travel between May to October.

Trekking in Ladakh» Trekking in Ladakh - Trekking in this part includes 8-day Markha valley trek, the 11-day Lamayuru-Padum route, the Stok Khangri, and on the valleys of Suru and Zanskar. Some parts of Ladakh are restricted to foreigners and a maximum time of 7 days is allowed for trekking in this region. Information about different categories of permits is available at the Jammu and Kashmir tourist offices and the Government of India tourist offices. The village of Drok Pa, Nubra Valley, the Pangong Lake circuit, the Tso Moriri Lake are some other popular destinations with trekkers.

» Trekking in Garhwal and Kumaon - Located in the Western Himalayas the Garhwal and Kumaon region offers some exciting trekking routes. Uttarkashi, Tehri-Garhwal, Pauri-Garhwal, Dehradun and Chamoli are the popular trekking regions in Garhwal. Trekking in Kumaon includes Milam Glacier, Pindari Glacier and the regions of Kafni Glacier. Its higher regions can be trek from mid-April to mid-November and the time for lower regions are from mid-December to February.

» Trekking In Himachal - Trekking in this part will be a refreshing experience for any traveller. Its snow-capped mountain peaks, lush green river valleys, streams, passes, enchanting lakes and dense forests are suitable for trekking. Himachal consists of Shimla hills, Kinnaur, Spiti, Lahaul, Kulu, Kangra and Chamba valleys, which are best for trekking. Some major trekking routes are the Beas Kund Trek, Macleod Ganj-Chamba, Kinner Kailash Circuit, Pin Parvati Pass, Manali-Hamta Pass, Triund-Laka Glacier, Sar Pass and across Chanderkhani Pass. The climate of this region is very cold and the best season is from June to October.
» Trekking in Darjeeling - Darjeeling in the east also has some trekking routes providing breathtaking views of Kanchenjunga and Mt. Everest. The major routes include the Singalila range and the Kalimpong region.

» Trekking in Sikkim - Some of the most popular treks in Sikkim are the route from Yuksom to Dzongri, hill ranges of Tendong, Menam and trek from Namchi to Borong. One can also trek from Soreng to Dentam in West Sikkim. Foreigners needed special permits for trekking in most parts of Sikkim. Permits can be obtained from the government tourism offices of Delhi, Kolkata and Siliguri.
